The Open Polytechnic of New Zealand (OPNZ) was founded in 1946 and is the country’s oldest and largest distance and online education provider. It is now part of the Te Pukenga national polytechnic network. Unlike traditional polytechnics, OPNZ operates primarily through online learning — students can complete qualifications from certificates through to bachelor’s degrees entirely via the institute’s purpose-built online platform, without attending a physical campus.

Campus Locations

As New Zealand’s leading distance education provider, OPNZ does not have a traditional physical campus. All courses are delivered online, allowing students to study from anywhere in the world.

1. Wellington Office (Headquarters)

• Location: Lower Hutt, Wellington, New Zealand’s capital.
• Function: The institute’s administrative headquarters, handling student enrolment, course management, quality assurance, and academic administration. Although not a traditional teaching campus, the online platform provides comprehensive teaching guidance, technical support, and academic advising to ensure distance students receive the same quality of learning support as on-campus students.
