Auckland University of Technology
University Overview
Auckland University of Technology (AUT) is known for its practice-oriented approach, strong industry connections, and innovative spirit. It is one of New Zealand’s youngest and fastest-growing universities.
Originally established as Auckland Technical School in 1895, it was granted full university status in 2000, becoming one of New Zealand’s eight public universities.
AUT operates three campuses across Auckland — in the city centre, on the North Shore, and in the southern suburb of Manukau — all equipped with modern teaching facilities and laboratories. With approximately 27,000 students, AUT leads New Zealand in the international diversity of both its staff and student body.
Strengths include business, hospitality management, health sciences, and sports science, with strong industry partnerships and a focus on developing students’ practical workplace skills.
AUT is a rapidly developing institution with more than a dozen subjects ranked among the world’s best, and its QS rankings improve year on year. It is ranked in the global top 50 among young universities (under 50 years old) and is number one in New Zealand in that category.
