School Overview

St Cuthbert’s College, established in 1915, is a day and boarding private girls’ school affiliated with the Presbyterian Church, enrolling girls from Year 1 through to Year 13. The school has a current enrolment of approximately 1,640 students and is widely regarded as one of New Zealand’s finest schools, with NCEA pass rates and NZQA Scholarship recipients consistently ranked among the highest in the country.

The school encourages every student to pursue excellence — this is the cornerstone of its educational philosophy. St Cuthbert’s brings together students from 35 different countries and places great value on the cultural diversity that internationalisation provides. All international students are placed in boarding, surrounded by native English-speaking peers. This immersive language environment helps international students develop their English proficiency rapidly, and evening tutoring sessions offer additional academic support.

St Cuthbert’s College is located in Epsom, central Auckland — one of New Zealand’s most renowned school zones — adjacent to Cornwall Park and surrounded by several of Auckland’s leading secondary schools. The campus is peaceful and secure, with the Robertson Building standing as the most impressive heritage building on the grounds.

Curriculum

St Cuthbert’s College offers both the IB Diploma Programme and the NCEA (New Zealand national curriculum). After completing NCEA Level 1 in Year 11, students are free to choose whether to continue with NCEA or transition to the IB Diploma Programme. Every student receives expert subject selection guidance to find the academic pathway best suited to her personality, abilities, and interests.

The primary school follows the Reggio Emilia Philosophy, which recognises every child as resilient and capable, emphasising natural development and the child’s interaction with their surrounding environment. In the middle school years (Years 7-10), the curriculum is broad and progressively specialised as students discover their areas of passion, with a focus on developing critical thinking, problem-solving, and independent learning skills.

The school’s distinctive HUB programme (Health, University and Beyond) is a key feature, covering financial literacy, career planning, religious education, global citizenship, and women’s health, comprehensively preparing students for their future. Sporting facilities are state-of-the-art, including the Centennial Recreation Centre (with fitness and aquatic facilities), a sports hall, tennis courts, and hockey turf. The Performing Arts Centre provides a professional venue for music, dance, and drama.

International Students

St Cuthbert’s College offers international students a distinctive full-boarding experience, with all international students accommodated on campus in an entirely English-speaking environment. International students at the school come from 35 different countries, and this multicultural boarding community provides rich opportunities for cross-cultural exchange.

The school encourages international students to participate actively in all school activities and make full use of the school’s educational resources. Evening tutoring sessions provide additional academic support for international students. The school’s comprehensive pastoral care system closely monitors every international student’s wellbeing and academic progress, ensuring that each girl feels at home even while studying far from her own country.
