The Investor category is divided into two streams, while the Business category is designed for entrepreneurs with commercial experience and innovation capability.
Balanced Investor (AIP Balanced)
Designed for high-net-worth individuals, with a higher investment threshold.
- Investment amount: NZD 10 million or more
- Investment period: 5 years (60 months or more)
- Eligible investments: Government bonds, listed equities, commercial/residential development, philanthropic investments, etc.
- Residency requirement: 105 days over the 5-year period; each additional NZD 1 million invested reduces the requirement by 14 days, to a minimum of 63 days
Growth Investor (AIP Growth)
Designed for applicants with moderate capital and business experience.
- Investment amount: NZD 5 million or more
- Investment period: 3 years (36 months or more)
- Eligible investments: NZTE-certified high-growth sectors (venture capital, start-ups, growth funds, technology/green energy)
- Residency requirement: 21 days over the 3-year period (an average of 7 days per year)
Business Investor
Designed for applicants with proven business experience who are willing to establish or acquire a business in New Zealand.
- Standard Track (NZD 1 million)
- Investment: NZD 1 million to acquire a business
- Business: Hold at least 25% ownership; employ 5 or more full-time staff (including at least 1 new local hire)
- Pathway to PR: After 3 years of operation, apply for residence
- Fast Track (NZD 2 million)
- Investment: NZD 2 million
- Pathway to PR: Eligible to apply for residence after 12 months of operation (still requires a total of 3 years of business operation)
